Today we prepare to travel back to Amsterdam. We’re booked into the Dorint Hotel near the airport in Holland and will travel to Frankfurt and Toronto on December 31st and January 1st.
Christmas Day was spent with my sister Helen, her partner Ted, niece Michelle and nephew Neil. It was an awesome meal – turkey, ham, potatoes (mashed and roasted), brussel sprouts, cauliflour cheese (especially for Neil) with wonderful gravy. Washed down with copious amounts of wine. It was a wonderful day and we got lots of little take home presents. Thank you Helen and Ted.
Boxing Day was spent with my other sister Shirley, her husband Gordon, my brother Tony, George (Gordon’s brother) along with Gordon’ extended family (son Ian, wife Christine, daughter Arianne and son Isaac). Gordon took us all (yes 10 adults and 2 children) to a local hotel that served an awesome gourmet carvery. It was a 5 course meal. This meant that Shirley et al didn’t have to prepare, cook or clean up. It was just a wonderful afternoon and of course, Shirley had little table presents for us all. I got a “sister candle” which I’ll cherish for ever. Thanks Shirley and Gordon it was just amazing.
We’ve had a wonderful time in Northern Ireland and it was terrific spending as much time as possible with my brother Tony. We’re hoping that it won’t be another 5 years before we’re home.
Our flight to Amsterdam was uneventful. We were met at the airport by Berti and Dede and went to have coffee before going onto the hotel Dorint for the evening. Dede brought along the spinning wheel that I’ll use when I get back to Toronto in May (Thanks Dede), it is much appreciated.
The Dorint Hotel is wonderful, Gerrit and I had a fabulous meal on December 31st. We were in bed by 10pm as our flight to Frankfurt is at 10am with only an hour then before our flight to Toronto.
Happy New Year to all our friends and family as we travel into 2011 with our World Cruise staring in Florida on January 5th.
