Today and tomorrow are Mariner Appreciation Days. This is where Holland America Line honour us as loyal guests. Stein Kruse, President and CEO, his wife Linda Kruse, Gerald Bernhoft, Director Mariner Society and Sally Andrews, VP, Public Relations are on board and it’s PARTY time.
This evening at dinner all the beverages are complimentary and there’s no shortage of takers for drinks. This afternoon Stein gives up all the latest news from the company and highlights upcoming grand Voyages and World Cruises. There’s an opportunity to ask questions and there are quite a few questions.
Tonight the Amsterdam team are going to transform the top deck of the ship namely the Lido swimming pool area and restaurant into an extraordinary Mariner Appreciation Day event. “A Taste of Australia”. There will be an amazing amount of food and wine (all complimentary) and of course the food will be divine. I hear there will be crocodile, Kangaroo, Emu and the list will be endless no doubt. There’s several Australian bands on board “The Snake Gully Band” and an Aboriginal didgeridoo musician. There’s complimentary wine tasting going on in the Canaletto Tasting Room with Yalumba regional wine. The swimming pool had been emptied and made into a rain forest with huge barrels of wine in the centre.
The party was a huge success and people ate and drink until they were full (and then some I think). The Snake Gully band were amazing. One of the Aboriginal didgeridoo musicians got sick and was quarantined but his partner did a stellar job of doing the didgeridoo. Did you know that the didgeridoo is an Irish Gaelic word meaning black snake. Interesting piece of trivia.
