New Years In Banbridge

On our way to the cruise, we visited with family in Belfast and Banbridge for New Years. The main attraction was Abigail, Pat’s grand niece, only 8 weeks old. You can see why she is a major attraction! Of course we also visited Pat’s sisters and their families. Fabulous food and chat for a week, what better way to start the new year.

As a side benefit we got to visit the excellent Titanic exhibit in Belfast. This exhibit gives a clear illustration, including the noise levels, of what it took to build the ship. Over 9 million rivets were hammered by teams of 3 plus a boy to transfer the hot rivets from stove into the hole. A separate section was devoted to debunking the Hollywood inspired non-truths surrounding the building and sinking. There are no artefacts of the ship at the museum, they are part of a grave and should stay there.
