Thursday, April 9th 2009 Cruising Day 25

It’s Harry’s birthday today and we want to sent warm happy thoughts his way.  We hope you have a GREAT day.

We’re at sea again today.  It’s a formal night and we have reservations at the Pinnacle Restaurant.  Our friends Bill and Jole have asked us to join them (in thanks for Gert’s help to Bill re the Internet stuff)

IMGP0653 We’ve had some

intense storms moving in today with sea swells about 1.5 – 2.0 metres.  When it rains here – it goes sideways – awesome.  I think we’re getting the tail end of the storm that hit Madagascar yesterday.

Gert and Bill worked on Bill and Jole’s travel blog, I did a work out (much needed) and Jole went to a movie.  We’ve had another relaxing day.  We attended the Vietnam tours lecture and are thankful for choosing the one we’re going on – more about that on Friday after our tour.

There’s an amazing number of small fishing boats out here in the Gulf of Thailand and into the South China Sea – I don’t think I’d be happy this far out, but these folks make their living out of the sea so I guess they don’t have much choice.  Some of them actually live on their boats, which are little more than a 12ft boat with a small 5×4 structure built over the middle.  They cook and sleep on these little boats.  How blessed are we!

We’re hearing a lot about ships being seized by Pirates.  I must say I’m VERY satisfied with how the crew handle both the ship and the safety of its passengers.  They have drills, fire, medical, and other just about every day.  All taken extremely seriously – I only wish the passengers would take the life boat drills as seriously.

OK must end now, got to shower and get dressed for our dinner tonight.
