Crossing the Equator–Mar 2, 2013

This has to be the 6th or 7th time that we have crossed the equator since starting our cruising. The ceremony is performed to judge pollywogs (first timers) worthy or not to stay on board after entering King Neptune’s kingdom.IMGP7880

The ceremony used to occasionally involve throwing pollywogs overboard but on cruise ships things are more civilized. And passengers are unfortunately no longer judged. The process is to have a prisoner appear before King Neptune who reads out the violations, e.g. medical staff handing out laxatives instead of Imodium. They then have to kiss the fish, messed up and are then judged. The worst judgment is to bake, the best is to be dunked. (The food like gloop is not too pleasant after baking in the hot sun for 10-15 minutes.)

The pool of course is emptied and cleaned up before being used again.

All in all a fun event, this one being one of the best we have seen so far.

  1. I’m so sad I missed this! I’ve done one before on the Volendam and it’s my favorite thing to do! Hope you guys are having a great rest of the trip and are still enjoying the entertainment!
